Membership to Canberra Women’s Football Incorporated is now open!

Membership is $50 per year, or $30 for concession holders. 

Signing up to become a member of Canberra Women’s Football (CWF) means becoming part of a community dedicated to the development and promotion of women’s football in the Canberra region. As a member, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the success and growth of women’s football by supporting initiatives such as fundraising campaigns, community events, and advocacy efforts.

By becoming a member, you help build a sustainable and vibrant future for women’s football in Canberra, ensuring that the sport continues to grow and thrive, providing opportunities for athletes to succeed both on and off the field.

FOUNDING MEMBERS

Annika

Annika has worked in events over the last 10 years, recently pivoting into HR in the APS. She has extensive experience across project and event management, branding, stakeholder engagement and social media management. Football has become a staple within her community, with friends and family coming together to watch Canberra United each week. Being able to attend games in person has inspired her daughter to begin playing, encouraging Annika to become an advocate for equality in women’s sport, ensuring that Canberra girls continue to have heroes and role models at a local level.

Brydie

Brydie is a current law student, and has varied public sector experience. With her legal background, Brydie has analytical skills and a commitment to fairness as well as experience navigating policy, governance, and regulation. Born and raised in Canberra, Brydie grew up cheering for Canberra United and the Canberra Capitals. Being raised watching women play sport in the capital fueled her passion for football, gender equality and the Canberra community. Brydie is eager to contribute to Canberra Women’s Football, and committed to providing inclusive, transparent and welcoming opportunities for women to play sport throughout the community.

Carly

Carly is a coordinator in a Disability support program, overseeing staff and participants in careers development. Carly has been working in community services for 15 years and has experience with school age children, youth and adults with disabilities. Carly has a particular passion for creating pathways for gender equality and inclusion. Growing up Carly played for local club Monaro Panthers but has since moved on to Canberra United super fan, being a member for 10+ years. Carly is eager to advocate for equal opportunity for both Girls and Boys to have access to football at all levels and abilities, and creating a safe space for all members of the community to enjoy supporting football at an elite level.

Debbi

Debbi is a Director/Owner of Strive Insurance Services, a family-owned and operated small business. Prior to moving into the family business, Debbi spent over 16 years working for local and national Not for Profits with experience in a range of areas including service delivery, volunteer management, strategic planning, project management, continuous improvement and people and financial management. Debbi started playing indoor and outdoor football as a child and is now enjoying watching her children grow their own passion for the sport, whilst volunteering as a manager or coach. Debbi and her family love attending Canberra United matches at Mackellar Park with friends, the children are especially inspired by the players and the time spent chatting with them after matches.

Sarah M

Originally from Brisbane, Sarah studied theatre and acting for two years before moving to Canberra in 2022 to begin various film related courses. She is very familiar with video editing, directing and producing and brings a performance-based artistic role to the group, as well as experience in managing social media platforms. Despite that she doesn’t have any sports background, Sarah has an immense passion for equality in women’s sport, especially in the case of Canberra United. Currently working as a medical receptionist, she advocates for kindness and empathy in her everyday life, and when not working full time she enjoys spending her time with her fur babies – Zephyr and Toast.

Elle

Elle joins CWF with over a decade of experience driving positive change across the education, finance and media industries. With a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations and a background in Psychology, she specialises in public relations, forging valuable partnerships and E2E project management. As a former brand ambassador and seasoned recruitment specialist she has an extensive history of recruiting top talent and providing industry advice. Her experience also spans across diversity and inclusion initiatives, multicultural events and sport. She is passionate about elite athlete wellbeing and performance, and is currently working through the pathway of becoming a Psychologist.

Elle’s advocacy extends beyond borders, as evidenced by her involvement in global initiatives such as the FIFA Fan Movement and TEDxSydney. Whether championing football as a community builder or fostering partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders, she’s dedicated to promoting women’s involvement in the beautiful game as a catalyst for positive change on a global scale. Elle has been involved in football in NSW as a player, referee, coach and held a number of club roles within the region. She has been a strong ‘out of town’ supporter of Canberra United since 2012 and is committed to securing the future of a club that has one of the best supporter communities in Australia.

Heather

Heather is an award-winning leader and advocate for cultural change in sport with over 45 years involvement in football in various capacities at club, ACT and Australian levels. She was Executive Director for Australian Women’s Soccer from 1986 to 1993 during which time she guided the organisation from kitchen-table to professional administration with few resources and limited funding. She was at the forefront of lobbying for Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup status for women.

From 1993 to 2003, Heather was a lecturer in sport management at the University of Canberra, Executive Officer of WomenSport Australia and a consultant at the Australian Sports Commission.

In 2004, Heather was the first female to be employed as CEO of the ACT Football Federation. During her 12-year tenure, she forged the integration of four football organisations (including the women’s association) into a single entity that became Capital Football. She was instrumental in establishing Canberra United FC in the Westfield W-League and oversaw the management of the club for the first nine seasons (that included two championship wins).

Heather is a Life Member of ACT Football and an inductee in Football Australia’s Hall of Fame. She has a plaque on the ACT Honour Walk in the city and is a Member of the Order of Australia. She also has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Canberra, is an inductee in the University’s inaugural Sport Walk of Fame and is one of the first recipients of the prestigious Frank S Pyke Alumni Award.

Heather joined the Board of Women Onside in 2020 and is the manager of the Onside Mentoring program, now in its fourth year.

Kath

Kath has been in the APS for the last 19 years with experience and expertise in recruitment, training, risk management, governance and secretariat coordination. Prior to this she worked in various forms of childcare for 20 years. Kath has also been part of the football community for over 30yrs as a player, coach and club administrator. Being only one of very few female club presidents and the first female to be awarded the ACT Coach of the Year (2006), it was clear that female representation needed to improve and grow. From grassroots to WPL and our very own ALW team, the pathway is now clearer for our girls and young women to follow. Kath has been a Canberra United supporter since its inception (2008), who has seen the positive contributions of their players firsthand in the football community, becoming role models for the next generation. Kath is strongly committed to assisting the ‘Save Canberra United’ campaign, in any way possible, to secure the team’s future and beyond. 

Mikaela

Mikaela is a senior lecturer in design at the University of Canberra with comprehensive experience in visual communication, creative entrepreneurship, exhibition design and events. She has 16 years experience as a design and creative business educator. Skilled in brand identity, brand strategy and product development, Mikaela is currently undertaking a PhD on the creative micro-business sector and the lived experiences of creative women. She is looking forward to extending her research areas to women in sport in the future. Mikaela developed and co-designed the Play On Exhibtion at the University of Canberra in 2023 to coincide with the Women’s World Cup, and helped facilitate the World Cup Trophy visit to Canberra. She has played soccer in Canberra for 30 years, competes in ACT Masters Athletics and has two young children.

Monique

With a passion for not for profits and women’s football, Monique brings passion and enthusiasm to CWF as well as financial expertise. Monique has been working as a management accountant with not for profits over the last 7 years after completing a Bachelor of Commerce with Accounting and Corporate Sustainability majors at the ANU in 2017 and is 12 months away from finishing her CPA studies. Monique is passionate about giving back to the community and has been actively involved in volunteering in the Canberra community since 2018, including as treasurer of the Belconnen Dog Obedience Club for 5 years from 2019-2023 and Mental Illness Education ACT for two years from 2020-2021 and is eager to support CWF as treasurer and an advocate for women’s football.
