It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the departure of Sasha Grove, Chloe Lincoln, and Nicki Flannery from Canberra United.

Sasha Grove, a talented defender with super-speed, has been a remarkable player for Canberra United. Known for her technique and exceptional work rate, Sasha has been a vital part of our team since making her debut in 2021, a product of the Canberra United Academy (before it’s demise in 2023). She has also been recognised for her potential, earning a spot in the CommBank Young Matildas squad. Sasha’s departure is a significant loss for the team.
Chloe Lincoln, an outstanding goalkeeper, has been a rock at the back for Canberra United. Her performances have not only been pivotal for the team but have also earned her a place in the Young Matildas alongside Sasha. Chloe’s contributions have been invaluable, and her departure leaves a void that will be hard to fill. We wish Chloe and Sasha the best as they continue their careers at Western United.
Nicki Flannery, a versatile and dynamic player, has been an integral part of Canberra United over the past 9 years. Her ability to play in multiple positions and her leadership on and off the field have been crucial for the team. Nicki’s presence will be deeply missed, along with her blazing runs down the sideline, multiple assists, and goalscoring abilities. We wish nothing but the best for Nicki and her career, and hope one day to welcome her back into the CU Green.
It is a great shame that more could not have been done to retain these talented players in Canberra. Their departure is a significant loss for our team and our community and is a testament to the challenges faced in managing the team effectively.
We remain committed to supporting Canberra United and ensuring that the funds raised through the Save Canberra United campaign are used to benefit the club and its players directly. We will continue our efforts to secure a brighter future for women’s football in Canberra.
